January 16, 2015

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) plans to earmark around US$11.5 billion to US$12 billion on capital expenditures in 2015, up nearly 20% year-on-year, which is expected to outnumber Intel's—expected to stand at US$11 billion—for the first time, reported Economic Daily News on January 16. Meanwhile, TSMC is going to launch mass production of 16-nm process technology in June, one month earlier than previously scheduled. The company's 12-inch-equivalent wafer shipment volume reached 8.2 million  units in 2014, and is expected to increase 11% to 9.2 million units this year. The company's revenues and profits both reached historical heights in 2014, at NT$762.8 billion and NT$263.9 billion (US$24.1 billion and US$8.3 billion; US$1=NT$31.65), respectively.
